Sonita Buddi is a mother, foster parent, Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA)volunteer, 2021 New Leaders council fellow, community activist and the founder of Brighten Our Future Early Learning Center. Sonita possesses the vision and drive to improve community resources and accessibility to quality Early Childhood Education.
Laura Kinney is a clinical social worker and licensed mental health therapist who has served individuals and families in greater Omaha in the fields of child welfare, domestic violence, and mental health since 2005. She is a graduate of the University of Nebraska - Omaha’s social work program, and created a private therapy practice in 2014. Since then, she has focused on helping heal + end trauma cycles through innovative clinical techniques like EMDR, Brainspotting, and somatic work. An avid follower of the conscious/respectful parenting movement, Laura is an advocate for shifting ample attention to the critical years of a child’s life and development through supporting parents in their own journey. In addition to assisting with the Brighten Our Futures ELC, Laura has served as an adjunct instructor in UNO’s graduate social work program, is a member of the board of directors for the local chapter of the National Association of Social Workers, as a member of the Rainbow Connectors Guild for Omaha Children’s museum, and is a current participant in Class 43 of the Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Omaha program. Her daughters, Molly (16) and Brooke (5), remain her greatest inspiration and teachers and her greatest opportunity to practice what she preaches.
